About Project
The European countries haven’t prepared scientific, protective, preventive and intervention programs for the refugees, immigrants and asylum seekers so the problems of those people have increased highly. In the partner countries there are various good practices and successful results. In spite of all these good practices, most of the European countries have produced temporary policies and solutions to struggle with the problems of refugees, immigrants and asylum seekers. It has been tested whether or not all the programs are effective on the refugees, immigrants and asylum seekers and it has been necessary to collect all these programs under one title. Based on this need the good practices in different countries are gathered an transnational project has been designed to establish a holistic program. As the Project coordinator, a commission was established for the survey and interview to be implemented to the refugees and asylum seekers in Düzce Province. The commission members implemented this survey and interview to the refugees and the teachers. The survey and the interviews have been assessed by the experts. According to the assessment results: the adaptation of the refugees and asylum seekers into social lifw, lack of basic education, the special education for the children who need special education, lack of communication skill and experiencing language difficulty were the most common results of the survey. The survey results implemented to the educators focused on the similar problems. Consequently the basic probems of the Project shareholders are: Communicatin skills, lack of language skill, adaptation to the social life, the points of view of the people and the educators about the refugees and the asylum seekers, the basic educational needs of the children, the rehabilitation support fort he children who need special education, the traumas and spiritual problems the refugees and the asylum seekers experience. Why international: While the 1948 International Bill of Human Rights gives broader rights to refugees and asylum seekers, Italy and Portugal are at the head of countries that use these rights in favor of refugees and asylum seekers. Italy and Portugal are getting a lot of immigration from Libya and other countries, especially because of its proximity to North African countries. They have been able to develop permanent policies in the country through the national and local authorities for the refugees and the asylum seekers nationwide to cope with this wave of migration. Turkey is less experienced about developing policies related to refugees and asylum seekers when compared to Italy and Portugal. We believe that Italy and Portugal are successful about overcoming the problems of them so we can interact with them and we can transfer their practices to our country. Turkey is at the forefront of countries that have the largest number of refugees and asylum seekers in their own countries under current conditions. Turkey has gained great experience in this field in a short time . As a result, the long-term experiences of the Italians, combined with the capacity of Turkey to host a great number of refugees and asylum seekers, the exchange of good practices between these two countries will provide a significant contribution to the solution of the problems of immigrants and refugees. Reflecting the refugee and asylum-seeker programs carried out by the European Union, it is thought to be useful to observe the experience of Turkey, Portugal and Italy in this regard. Objectives are as follows; - Training for the language in order to provide the social integration of refugee, immigrant and asylum seeker children and their families. - Disseminating good practices towards the children among the regions. - Preparing a joint action plan that makes the social integration of the parents and children easier. - Increasing communication competence of the staff working in the partner institutions in regard to the psycho-social integration. - Leading the disabled refugee, immigrant and asylum seeker students to related special training schools. -Providing the participation of the refugee, immigrant and asylum seeker students studying in the partner schools and their families to the social activities. -Increasing refugee, immigrant and asylum seeker families’ competences of child education and development within the parenting education program. -Creating social integration centre in order to provide the coordination among all refugee, immigrant and asylum seeker parents, students and staff of the partner institutions. -Creating awareness among the locals about the problems and social integration of the refugee, immigrant and asylum seekers. -Providing the orientation of the students to the school.(Proje yürütücüsü: Düzce İl MEM)
